Gary Robards Appointed to Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District Board

San Rafael, CA (January 23, 2023) — The Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District Board of Directors last week appointed Gary Robards to a vacant seat on the Board following the passing of Board Member Judy Schriebman late last year. The appointment is effective for the remainder of that seat’s term, until December 2024. The seat will be on the November 2024 ballot.

“I am honored and pleased to be on the board and be able to contribute my knowledge,” said Robards. “I want to help the LGVSD continue to run an efficient collection system that minimizes sewer spills while providing excellent wastewater treatment.”

Robards brings a wealth of experience to the LGVSD board. He is a retired civil engineer with 38 years of experience designing and managing sewer facility projects. He received undergraduate degrees in biology and environmental studies, and a master’s degree in Civil and Sanitary Engineering, from UC Berkeley. During Robards’ career he worked on a variety of sewer treatment and collection projects in Marin County, including numerous LGVSD projects. Robards served as the District Engineer for various projects with the Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin, and was the District Engineer with the Richardson Bay Sanitary District for 30 years.

He has been a resident of the LGVSD service area for 32 years and served as a member of the Santa Venetia Community Plan Advisory Committee. He currently serves as vice president of the Santa Venetia Neighborhood Association.

The District’s Board of Directors sets policy and makes a variety of decisions governing the District’s operations of providing effective wastewater collection, treatment, and recycling services. The Board focuses on critical policy issues involving budgets and funding, operations/infrastructure, partnerships, and other vital matters which guide the overall success of the District.

The Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary Sewer District serves 30,000 customers in the northern San Rafael area and manages approximately 105 miles of sewage collection pipelines. In addition to the wastewater treatment plant, the District also produces recycled water and is involved in solar and biogas power generation, garbage collection, and a multi-faceted reclamation project, which includes a wildlife pond, irrigated pastures, recycled water storage ponds, and a saltwater marsh.
