San Rafael, CA (January 13, 2022) — At its meeting of January 4, 2022, the Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District Board of Directors appointed Mr. Ronald Ford to a seat on the Board which became vacant last month upon the departure of former Board member Rabi Elias. The appointment is effective for the remainder of that seat’s term, until December 2022. The seat will be on the November 2022 ballot.

“I’m grateful and honored to have been selected to serve on the District’s Board of Directors,” said Mr. Ford. “We have many challenges and opportunities in the coming year, and I’m proud to be part of this important responsibility in protecting our local public health and the environment through the District’s services.”

Mr. Ford is a 33-year resident in the area served by the District. He is a former President of the Santa Venetia Neighborhood Association, and former chair of County Service Area 18 which includes sections of the Santa Venetia/Las Gallinas area. Mr. Ford has also served as Chapter President the J.C.C. SEIU and on the SEIU State Executive Board, and was Co-Chair/Founder of the Marin Civic Center Vision Committee.

The District’s Board of Directors sets policy and makes a variety of decisions governing the District’s operations of providing effective wastewater collection, treatment, and recycling services. The Board focuses on critical policy issues involving budgets and funding, operations/infrastructure, partnerships, and other vital matters which guide the overall success of the District.

The Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary Sewer District serves 30,000 customers in the northern San Rafael area and manages approximately 105 miles of sewage collection pipelines. In addition to the wastewater treatment plant, the District also produces recycled water and is involved in solar and biogas power generation, garbage collection, and a multi-faceted reclamation project which includes a wildlife pond, irrigated pastures, recycled water storage ponds, and a saltwater marsh.
