Marin County Take-Back Day

Marin County Take-Back Programs

The aim of this innovative program is to keep un-used or expired pharmaceutical products out of the waste stream and environment. Recent news reports have described the presence of trace amounts of pharmaceuticals in Bay Area drinking water as well as in Bay waters, and their potential impact on the environment.

All prescription medications, vitamins and medicated creams and over the counter medications are welcome, as well as pet medications. Items not accepted are IV bags, infectious waste, personal care products, empty pill containers, hydrogen peroxide, aerosol cans and full inhalers.

Materials can be disposed of at alternate locations. Visit www.marinrecycles.org and http://www.marincounty.org/depts/cd/divisions/environmental-health-services/medical-waste for more info.  For additional information about other locations that accept prescription drugs visit  www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback/.

Please watch for details for upcoming events and remember that Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District is a Monday-Friday collection point for fluorescents, batteries and mercury thermometers !
