District Awarded Best Small Sewer Collection System in State

The Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District was awarded best small sewer pipeline collection system in the State by the California Water Environment Association. The Collection System of the Year Award is in the category of sewer agencies with up to 249 miles of pipeline, with Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District competing against the best sewer systems in the state of that size.

The District achieves this level of excellence through an intensive focus on every aspect of collection system maintenance and management, including: a fully trained and competent linecrew, the use of modern technologies such as a computerized maintenance management system; both short and long range planning; detailed daily and monthly procedures; a modern fleet of specialized trucks and tools; and a fully prepared emergency response trailer. Having a dedicated staff that is committed to protecting public health and the environment makes all of this possible.

The District is also investing millions of dollars to upgrade aging parts of its system and in new equipment and training which has increased productivity, improved work quality and safety, enhanced emergency response procedures and helped the District avoid expensive regulatory fines that many other sewer agencies have been forced to pay.

Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District has set a goal that must be achieved every day and in fact every hour: a completely reliable and safe collection system for customers, the community and the environment. The District is committed to continually meeting that goal.

2010 Collection System Award

Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District is honored to receive the 2010 “Small Collection System of the Year” for a three-county region including Marin. We diligently work to avoid overflows and spills and this award recognizes that we've maintained one of the lowest spill records for Marin County.

Safety Superstars!

LGVSD received recognition for a stellar safety record for 2009/2010. The District strives for excellence in this area through training, administrative procedures and education.

Prestigious Award Goes to Public Education Committee

The Marin County Public Education Committee--comprised of five Marin Wastewater Treatment Agencies including LGVSD--is the winner of the esteemed 2010 Dr. Teng-Chung Wu award.

This award, presented by the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board, recognizes Dr. Teng-Chung Wu's dedication to improving water quality throughout his career and, in particular, his leadership in pollution prevention. After Bay Area utilities spent billions of dollars during the 1980's to implement traditional treatment technologies, Dr. Wu believed pollution prevention was the most cost-effective next step in improving water quality. To advance pollution prevention in the Bay Area, Dr. Wu introduced a collaborative regional approach involving many public agencies and utilities in pollution prevention. His efforts led to the formation of the Bay Area Pollution Prevention Group (BAPPG). Since the public is ultimately the source of pollutants in wastewater, Dr. Wu believed strongly in the public outreach and awareness elements of pollution prevention programs. That shared philosophy is demonstrated by and recognized in recipients of this award.

Applicants are specifically evaluated based on the following criteria: leadership, innovation, commitment, measurable results, and benefits to the environment and community which reach toward the goals of fostering new and expanded pollution prevention programs. Previous award winners were East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD), San Francisco Public Utility Commission (SFPUC), Bay Area Pollution Prevention Group (BAPPG), and now Wastewater Treatment Agencies of Marin County Public Education Program.

Collection System Award

Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District was recently awarded “Small Collection System of the Year” for a three-county region including Marin. Among the key reasons: our overflows were 500 percent below the average, and we have the lowest spill record for Marin County.

District Wins State-Level Award
for Public Education Programs

After receiving the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Redwood Empire Section Public Education Program of the Year Award last Fall, the Wastewater Treatment Agencies of Marin County Public Education Committee was placed in the running for the State-level award. The Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District serves on this committee, along with five other Marin County wastewater agencies, to provide education to the public on environmental and public health issues related to sanitary sewers and wastewater treatment.

We are proud to announce that the Committee won the California Public Education Program of the Year Award in our respective category and received recognition and a plaque commemorating this accomplishment!
